I hope you enjoyed this wonderful summer we’ve had and have lots of vitamin D absorbed for the winter. Schools are back so I reckon it’s time to start off our year.

The Annual Mass for Retired Teachers takes place on next Thursday morning (6th September) at 10.30 a.m. in St.Fiacre’s Church, Loughboy followed by tea/coffee & chat in the adjoining parish centre. All are welcome. Please extend a special welcome to anyone you know who has retired in this past year. (I would love names and contact details for newly retired).

Golf Outing.

Our first golf outing to Mount Juliet on the 13th August was a great success. We were joined by Laois members and other friends from different parts of the country. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day especially those who had not played this Jack Nicklaus designed course before. Thanks to the organisers Kathleen Hogan, Anne Murphy and Teresa Norton. Laois RTA are hosting an outing in Abbeyleix on Thursday 13th September if you are  interested.

PROPOSED TRIPS IN THE AUTUMN

  • Birr Castle gardens and science observatory. (Day Trip)
  • Walk in the Discovery Park in Castlecomer.
  • Christmas Markets to one of the main cities in Europe. (e.g.Krakow )  Details to follow.

Monthly Lunch Venue.

We are considering a change of venue for our last Monday of the month lunches. Please give feedback after the Mass next week or by email.

Classes

KRSP run various classes throughout the year – pilates, aqua fit, swimming, etc.aimed at retired people if you are interested. Also the Bridge Centre have beginners classes for bridge if that interests you. I’ve seen free computer classes also advertised in various locations in Kilkenny. We would love to start a choir and maybe a book club and would love someone to help with either of those. Should we make another attempt at the singing/music sessions?

A.G.M. and Christmas lunch on Thursday 6th December.

Congratulations to our member Ned Kennedy on the publication of his book “Frigger’s Alley”which was launched during Heritage Week.

Congratulations too to Denis O’Reilly, Pauline O’Brien and Maura Magner on their Arts Week Exhibitions.

Denis has set up his own website www.denisoreillyphotography.com which is well worth a look.

Looking forward to catching up with you next Thursday. If you have friends who are retired from ASTI or TUI do invite them along.

It is MOST IMPORTANT that you pass on all this information to retired teachers who may not have email.

Thanks,

Marian Ryan  087-6742884.or 056-7765332.
