The village of Windgap was the starting point for our latest walk. A group of 29 retired members gathered at the Lakeside Shop and Tearooms in the village. From there we split into two walking groups. The main group headed out of the village and walked the Bearna Breac Loop with its panoramic views in all directions.
A small group (including dogs) walked the village loop where the purple signs brought us past the lake and along the woodland path. We passed the perimeter of the GAA grounds across the new link to the church yard, across the road and around the beautifully ornate Grotto, and then back through the village, finishing at the lake. On our route we saw some examples of the local heritage such as the Old League House, the local forge and the marvellous Calvary Grotto which is the largest in Europe and covers 4 acres. This is called the “Reflective Walk”.
Both groups met again and enjoyed the lovely tea/coffee and scones provided by the Lakeside Shop and tearooms. A very enjoyable day.
