Today, in the Clubhouse Hotel, there was a great attendance of retired teachers for Ann Murtagh, local historian, published author and fellow retired teacher’s presentation on Elizabeth Butler (Preston), only daughter of Thomas Butler, 10th Earl of Ormond known as “Black Tom”.
Ann wove a story around the Butler family and their connections to Elizabeth 1, the 9 Years War, rebellion, conspiracy, intrigue, betrayal, and family inheritance. All the elements of a great story. This is the inspiration for her latest book which is still a work in progress. As well as the historical background to her book we were treated to an excerpt to pique our interest and draw us into the story. We wish Ann every success and look forward to publication.
Afterwards many of those in attendance enjoyed a lovely lunch in the Clubhouse Hotel and we surprised our hard working secretary, Marian Ryan, with a birthday cake. I’m not allowed say which birthday it is though!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARIAN.
